Classmates Bill Hewlett, along with Dave Packard of Stanford University went ahead to find Hewlett Packard (HP) within the year 1939. The first product of the organization, i.e. the audio oscillator, was manufactured in Palo Alto garage. It was one from the electronic instruments utilized by the sound engineers. Amongst the first customer of HP was ‘Walt Disney Studios’. They purchased 8 oscillators for developing and testing a new-fangled sound system to make the film ‘Fantasia’. The Hewlett Packard or HP Organization is, at present, the topmost Corporation with respect to the information technologies (IT business). HP is the organization recognized for revolutionizing printing industry. Moreover, ıt is the pioneer in computer world. HP has, indeed, replaced Dell computers off late in the terms of computer shipments and sales.Nowadays, HP is a common name as far as printers and the associated technologies are concerned. HP laptop computers too as tablet PCs have been winning hearts of people in the last few years. In the year 2002, Compaq Inc. went on to merge with Hewlett Packard, thereby forming the single-biggest entity within the business of computers. Through this acquisition, HP has surpassed Dell and IBM/Lenovo computer systems. After some difficulties following the merger and some marketing realignment and restructuration, HP has done a superb job in presenting attractive notebooks and establishing their leadership within the marketplace. These days, HP has divided its home and small office laptop offering in four broad categories so that you can reach their different targets. We are going to briefly summarize the specifics of every of these lines:- Versatile performance. These are your standards notebook computers, the ones that you’re most likely to get at most retailers. They’re equipped with a 15.4″ screen, the hardrives vary in between 120 GB and 320 GB, RAM goes from 1GB to 4 GB. They arrive using the standard wifi and Bluetooth elements. They pounds close to 7 pounds. Their prices differ from $500 to $1,100. The notebooks ıncorporated in this line would be the followings: HP Pavilion dv5z, HP Pavilion dv6700t and HP Pavilion dv5t. – Mobility. The main difference comes from their dimension, screens drop to 12.1″ to 14.1″, the hardrives go from 120 GB to 320 GB, RAM goes from 1 GB to 4 GB. They come with the regular wifi and Bluetooth factors. They weight around 4.5 to 5.3 pounds. Their costs vary from $650 to $1,200. The notebook computers included in this line would be the followings: HP Pavilion dv2700t, HP Pavilion tx2500z, HP Pavilion dv4z and HP Pavilion dv4t. – Entertainment Powerhouse. We now enter the category of the desktop replacements; screens differ in among 17″ or 20.1″. hardrives go from 120 GB to 640 GB, RAM goes from 2 GB to 4 GB a choice of quality graphics card. They also arrive using the regular wifi and Bluetooth elements and more extensions than regular notebook computers. They weight around 4.6 to 15.3 pounds. Their prices vary from $800 to $1,900. The laptop computers included in this line would be the followings: HP Pavilion dv7z, HP Pavilion dv9700t, HP Pavilion dv7t and HP Pavilion HDX Entertainment Notebook PC. – Specific Edition. In short, it’s all about the look! Think special edition, you don’t want a laptop computer that looks like everyone else, then these are for you. Inside, ıt is more or less a mix from the versatile and mobility lines so that HP can tailor to both segments. Screens vary in between 14.1″ or 15.4″. hardrives go from 120 GB to 320 GB, RAM goes from 2 GB to 4 GB. They also arrive with the regular wifi and Bluetooth factors. They pounds close to 5.3 to 6.1 pounds. Their costs vary from $770 to $1,000. The notebooks ıncorporated in this line would be the followings: HP Pavilion dv6700t, HP Pavilion dv2700t, HP Pavilion dv2800t. The above-mentioned HP notebooks are available along with multiple customized features. HP laptops fall within the category of high-end models with the most recent functions and configurations. You will find numerous accessories provided for the company purposes. Each notebook comes with Company Edition of Windows Vista and also the other business-related software pack.HP has established itself as a solid brand; their success is because of their size and formidable sales machine on one hand but also due to the high quality of their products. HP notebook computers often rank higher in client satisfaction and if you’re in buying mode, Hp notebook computers need to be toward the top of your list.

The term Notebook computers and laptop computer is often used interchangeably. However notebook computers are smaller, lighter and costlier than laptop computers. You can carry this computer with you when you are away on a business trip, can watch movies and access internet also.

The first notebook computer which was launched in the market in 1981 was expensive and was not as versatile like present day computers .Portable versions of laptops were launched in the market by IBM and Epsom in 1983.

With introduction of Windows 95, the world of notebook computers took a giant leap forward and was now able to compete with other personal computers because of the operating system and the advancement of technology. Prices of these computers started falling, attracting more consumers. Life of battery improved and acids were no longer required. The notebook computers now consumed less power and could hold more data.

Notebook computers come in various sizes. For a quick reference, have a look at the following figures (without power adaptors and accessories): Tablet PC – it weighs less that 3 lbs; Ultra Portable – it weighs less than 4 lbs and less than 1.3 inches thick with size between 10 and 11 inches; Thin and Light – it is between 1 and 1.4 inches thick and weighs between 5 to 7 lbs with size from 11 to 14 inches; Desktop replacements (Largest) – it is 1.5 inches thick and heavier than 7 lbs. Size between 11 and 13 inches.

Some important points are listed here which may help you to have an informed purchasing decision:

Size and Weight: The point to remember that while choosing a very lightweight and small size, you may have to sacrifice some items such as drives. So you have to decide what you want.

Processor: Note book processors perform like desktop processors. Dual core processors carry multitasking and are common. Notebook processors directly impact the battery life and performance of the computers. For Intel premier processor, higher the number, the faster it will process. The rotational speed of the disk also affects the performance of these computers.

Memory (RAM): For Windows XP and Mac OS X, at least 256 MB is required. However the capacity of RAM is increasing with new varieties of notebook computer and in some machines it is 2 GB even!

Displays and Video: In a notebook computer video consists of video processor and display. Again the display consists of native resolution and screen size. But portability will be reduced with larger display. These days the popularity for the wide screen displays is increasing. Performance of PC gaming and 3D graphics will be determined by graphic processor.

Drives: Optical drives play an important role in notebook computers. These may be simple CD ROM drives to the high definition DVD burners. Most notebook computers these days are equipped with a dual layer DVD burner.

Connections: Wireless Fidelity (Wi-Fi), 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g, Fujitsu lifebook N6010 having trimode of 802.11a/b/g, etc are different wireless system available with notebook computers. Transferring rate of data depend on the type of wireless connection chosen.

Battery Life: Notebook computers come with four cell, 6 cell, and 8 cell batteries. Normal battery life is 2 to 3 hours. However 5 or 6 hours battery life is also available these days. Generally, the bigger the notebook computer, the lower is the battery life.

Warranty Plans: Make sure that you get at least one year warranty from the manufacturer while choosing your notebook computer. A system having a three year warranty will be a better choice if you are going to use your computer extensively.

It is suggested that you should update your knowledge periodically by logging onto the net keeping in mind the factors which need to be checked as stated above.

Laptop or notebooks are full featured miniaturised computer that are mobile and function on inbuilt betteries or AC/DC adaptors which charge the batteries while providing power to the computer hence making the utilization of power more efficient.
Laptops and Notebooks, often considered to be one and the same have a few distinguishing features which set them apart. Laptops are heavier, cheaper and larger than their slimmer, sleeker and more expensive counterpart. However both serve the same purpose and have same advantages over the traditional computers.
Man`s inherent desire for improvisation and technical breakthrough led to the innovation of laptops from computers. IBM and Epsom introduced the first laptop in 1983. At present the market is flooded with many top brands that offer laptops with excellent features and competing prices.
The introduction of Windows 95, which was compatible with the Notebooks, completely revolutionized the world of notebooks, which could now give a tough competition to personal computers. It resulted in improved technology – batteries with longer life, no need for acid and a compatible operating system consequently leading to lower prices and higher demands of notebooks. Notebooks now consumed lower power and could store large amount data.
Notebooks can be broadly classified into three categories on the basis of their weight, thickness and size. Mainstream notebooks weigh between 5 and 7 lbs (2.3 -3.2kg) with a screen size of 14.1 or 15.4 inches diagonally. Desktop replacement are larger, bulkier laptops weighing around 5-7 lbs and more than 1.5“ thick, with relatively low battery capacity but powerful components and screen size as large as 17-20 inches (13“x11“) diagonally. Because of its powerful components its serves as an excellent gaming machine.
Sub notebooks are available in different sizes and thickness. Thin and light notebooks weigh between 5-7lbs and 1 – 1.4“ thick with a screen size 11-14“ x 11“ while Ultra portable subnotebooks weigh less than 4 lbs and are less than 1.3“ thick with a screen size 11“x10“. Tablet PCs, palmtops, PDAS are as small as the size of a palm and weigh less than 3lbs and serve both as mobile phones and computers.
No doubt a notebook scores over a personal computer because of portability but because notebooks are in its initial stage of conception its various producers have not decided on standard features of the laptop which makes upgrading a laptop a very difficult process.
Some important points with regard to its various features should be kept in mind while deciding on which notebook to buy.

To keep up our dignity, it is often wise to carry with us office tools like a pen or a notebook. The realization of it as an essential has given rise to highly technological forms depending upon its usage. Began with blank papers put together by binding material, notebooks took different directions according to varied specifications.
For instance, toddlers are given notebooks closely ruled to facilitate tidy writing, while artists prefer plain and wider devices for sketching. Moreover, they also take various forms in accordance with professions. To illustrate, press reporters or journalists carry handy and petite notebooks that alleviates jotting whereas researches have devices to log the details and handling of instruments which are preferably long and tabulated.
Evolution of the concept of notebooks:
Keeping pace with the ever increasing demand for comfort and the relative precision technologies has given birth to the novel concept of notebook. With the advent of the computer era, notebooks turned out to be a component of the computer itself that gave way to its effective utilization at enormous work places. Countless features were then added based on the utilities that help carry out many tasks effortlessly today.
They incorporated in the computers being immobile turned out to be the source of further evolution. The need of a portable device involving all or most of the technologies led to today`s exceptional innovations. Laptops without much note-taking features were begun to be called as `notebooks`. And the light-weighted laptops with different qualities, excellent enough to be called a notebook were on a rise in the market, still sustaining their title. They were marketed by brands like Lenovo, Sony hp, Dell, etc.
These then took its vital deviations such as Personal digital assistants (PDA), Tablet PCs, mini-notebooks, digital papers and so on, in relation to their attributes.
Concise abstract on present-day notebooks:
Telephones today are not meant merely to converse with someone far away from you, but capturing videos and photographs, activities like watching movies or enjoying on music are possible as well. Similarly, notebooks on the present day scenario can be just more than a tool to scribble on. The term notebook thus barely reminds of a stack of blank papers whereas it is plainly a portable, smaller and thinner laptop weighing not more than four pounds.
Personal digital assistants:
These are little enough to be called a palm-top, developed with liquid crystal displays allowing touch-sensitivity screens. This feature allows the input via touching the screen that displays a virtual keyboard. This has been highly effective in educational institutes for qualitative interactive sessions where the students can have their notes taken on these instruments having their spell-check and grammar correction done then and there.
Tablet PCs:
These hit the market in 1989 for the first time. Tablet PCs are slate-like notebook computers without keyboard or mouse and inputs are through a digital pen or fingertip, although a movable or removable keyboard may be attached. They are designed to operate at multi-places on the screen at a time and are also insensitive to bright light or sunlight.
Mini-notebooks:
Mini-notebooks feature high resolution larger wide screens and are soon going to be indispensable.
Digital Papers:
With all the advantages of these devices, the best aspect underlying them is that the people with illegible handwriting will no more be embarrassed! However, it is sometimes obligatory to have hand-written signatures or documents. Notebook called Digital papers is the answer to this limitation which possesses a digital pen and a patterned paper to produce hand-written documents in a computer.

Tablet PCs are the coolest form of portable computing to hit the markets in recent years. Having developed a loyal following of appreciative customers, the tablet PC is continuing to grow in popularity as more and more computer aficionados discover all the benefits of these notebooks.

So what factors are most important to consider when shopping for tablet computers? First, you have to decide whether you want a slate or convertible computer. This is a personal decision based on how you plan to use the tablet laptop. For instance, if having easy access to a keyboard is important to you, a convertible PC is probably your best choice. However, if you need a computer that is very thin and light, you can do most of your work with a pen, and don’t require a laptop with text entry, slate PCs are the right choice. You can use a keyboard with slate tablet computers, but keep in mind that setting up an attachable keyboard and other necessary accoutrements may prove too much of a hassle.

Most people who make best use of slate notebooks work at an occupation such as nursing, insurance, and sales, where vertical use of the tablet PC proves quite beneficial to the tasks they need to accomplish throughout the day.

Screen size is another important factor in selecting the right tablet computer for you. Slate PCs are either 10.4″ or 12.1″ because this type of tablet laptop is supposed to be carried in your arms while in use. Tablet computers with a 10.4″ screen are considered small, but they produce a sharper image. The smaller size and weight of these notebooks are an advantage, however, it can be more difficult to take full-page notes.

For computers with a 14.1″ screen, you have to purchase a convertible PC. When comparing convertibles, consider size and weight, especially if you’re looking for a computer that won’t drag you down when you’re on the run.

When comparing and contrasting the various features offered by the many tablet computers out there, screen resolution is another factor to take into account. Resolution is simply the amount of information that will fit on the screen of your laptop. Most slate and convertible tablet notebooks are SXGA resolution, but keep in mind that larger screens on a tablet PC mean a less sharp image, and everything on the computer will appear more pixilated.

The screen viewing angle of tablet PCs refers to the ability to view documents in landscape and portrait modes. The newer computers come with all-direction wide-angle screens that allow you to view items on your laptop at 160 degrees in both modes. This allows portrait-mode viewing on notebooks to be carried out much more easily.

The main brands of tablet PCs include the following: Dell, HP, Toshiba, and Gateway. The best PC for you won’t depend on the brand, however. You have to take into consideration all the factors, including price, which make a certain model the best in your circumstances. Whether you end up purchasing a Dell, HP, Toshiba, or a Gateway, make sure you do extensive research before making a final decision.
